Abstract




Fruit trees are part of the diversity of edible plants, many of them still wild and located mainly in tropical regions. The research and development of agriculture in the world have been limited to some 150 species, leaving aside others with economic potential In the country, the National Autonomous Institute of Agricultural Research (INIAP) with its Experimental Station of the South Coast (EELS) a Through the Fruit Growing Program, it has a collection with 54 accessions of soursop, from different coastal provinces such as Esmeraldas, Manabi?, Guayas, Los Ri?os and El Oro and from the Ecuadorian highlands such as Santo Domingo, Azuay and Loja and even some introduced from Brazil, this collection being at the moment in the stage of agromorphological characterization. The level of economic importance that this crop has in the country leads to guarantee its conservation, for which reason, the National Institute of Agricultural Research with its Portoviejo Experimental Station, maintains a Germplasm Bank with thirteen traditional varieties, of which five are of Ecuador, three from Israel and three from the United States (KNUDSEN, 2000); all of them conserved in the field, which represents the existing genetic variability in the country. Currently, the detection of genetic polymorphisms has been carried out by various methods, including the use of molecular markers, which provide an excellent way to obtain a large amount of data on the conservation processes that can give rise to patterns of variation. , providing information that is very useful for an efficient management and exploitation of the variability present in the collections or genebanks.
