Abstract

This research paper studies the performance of a reinforced concrete building considering two models: one structured on the basis of flat porches coupled to cutting walls and another only with reinforced concrete porches, for this purpose the necessary structural elements of the structure were analyzed and designed. configuration of each model according to the procedures and regulations in force, the building is five stories with three openings in the direction of the X axis and five in the direction of the Y axis, differing only in the configurations mentioned above. The performance of the structures is evaluated under static nonlinear procedures or pushover analysis, in the direction of the strong axis of the walls (X axis).

The modeling parameters and numerical acceptance criteria that define the constituent curves of the plastic ball joints, whatever their nature, are evaluated according to FEMA 356 (FEMA, 2000), while pushover analyzes are performed in the Etabs structural computer program v 9.09. The sequence of faults affecting the structures is described, the capacity curves of each model of the building are evaluated and it is shown that the high stiffness of the walls increases the strength of the buildings while decreasing their overall ductility.
