Weight loss dynamics of banana under different packaging conditions
Main Article Content
Abstract
The aim of this study was to model the percentage of weight loss in banana during postharvest storage under different packaging conditions over time. Three treatments were evaluated: no polyethylene bag (control treatment), non-perforated polyethylene bag and perforated polyethylene bag. Weight of banana clusters was monitored over a 27-day storage period, with measurements taken at 12 time points. Weight loss was expressed as a percentage of initial weight. A color-based maturity chart was used to describe ripeness stage at 0, 19 and 27 days after harvest. The Shapiro-Wilk test was used to test for normality and ANOVA was carried out to test for statistical differences among treatments. The observed patterns are consistent with known physiological processes, and the differences among treatments coincides with other studies where packaging conditions affected variables like weight loss.
